NNC shuttlers October 19, 2009

North Negros College shuttlers spark in NOPSSCEA debut. MANY were surprised when the neophyte North Negros College from Cadiz City played championship match against the defending champion Riverside College men’s team. This is in the just-concluded Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association badminton tournament at Pohang Badminton Center, Bacolod City. NNC shuttlers were lead by former Palarong Pambansa standout Ernesto Layao Jr. and erstwhile Regional Meet campaigner Aljon Aloyan alongside with Joshua Padrenas, Neil Garcia and Dixon Honofre who hurdle NOPSSCEA top players from RC, University of St. La Salle, Visayan Maritime Academy Global College and John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation. Layao and Aloyan, carried the team to the finals where they unfortunately lost to RC in the SDS format changed their positions to singles and doubles setup hoping to end the competition early. Both were playing the first and second singles, respectively, during the elimination. NNC President and Cadiz City Councilor Agustin Desuyo disclosed that the result of the competition opened greater opportunity for the institution to excel in a wider scope as well as gave them an opening to prove what they can do as an educational group. NNC, a co-educational and non-sectarian school, was established in 1979 as Owen Institute of Electronics, Inc. that was after renamed to NNC in 1985. Its primary mission is to produce and proliferate socially conscientious and responsible, highly skilled, versatile internationally competitive graduates in the central Philippines. Moreover, it aimed to provide post-secondary education and training, committed to excellence, compassion, integrity, justice, moral and ethical principles and national values. Furthermore, it envisions socio-economic development and prosperity of northern Negros and surrounding islands, through strategic manpower development.
