In Negros Occidental - 21 schools, centers offering TESDA scholarship courses. The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority in Negros Occidental has accredited 21 schools and training institutions, including its Regional Training Center in Talisay and Provincial Training Centers in Kabankalan and Cadiz, to offer short-term competency-based programs under the Pangulong Gloria Scholarships. TESDA Provincial Director Yolanda Porschwits said scholarships are available for qualified Negrenses to prepare them for employment. The national government has set aside P5.6 billion for the Pangulong Gloria Scholarships. Porschwitz said the trainings are open to Negrenses 18 to 55, whether unemployed, underemployed, retrenched/displaced worker or returning overseas Filipino worker. "Aside from providing the training cost, we also provide them training allowance," she said. Teenagers as young as 15 may also avail of the scholarships, but she said they discourage them from applying because they could not get a job right away being minors. Porschwitz said not all courses available for scholarships are offered by schools and training centers. The North Negros College in Cadiz City offers Commercial Cooking, Bookkeeping, Computer Hardware Servicing, and Consumer Electronics Servicing and the TESDA Provincial Training Center, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Automotive Servicing, and Building Wiring Installation.
